Talkschool: we’re talking about “global education” at school

November 14th-22nd: a talkshow all about global education, in the Turinese High Schools.

Intercultural challenge and questions, hopes, worries, fears of the youths will be the main themes for a series of meetings which will take place in the Turinese High Schools. Students and teachers will take part in the event, as well as some exceptional guests: young refugees, some asking for asylum, immigrants – everyone carrying his/her own experiences, often dramatic.

Talkschool” is organized with the collaboration of some Turinese High Schools. It will be based on the “Food for All” theme, proposed by the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe for the 2009 Global Education Week.

“We’ve decided to give to the ‘Food for All’ motto – explains Paola Giani, president of the Il Nostro Pianeta (“Our Planet”) association – a much wider meaning. The food of the right information as a key to get to know better us and the others. An iniziative which aims to voice the youths’ thoughts – to incite them to awarely face the serious problems and the complexity of the globalized world”.

So, it’s going to be an actual itinerant talkshow, which will pass by about ten Turinese High Schools. The culminating event will take place at the conference hall by the Museo Diffuso della Resistenza, della Deportazione, della Guerra, dei Diritti e della Libertà (Museum of Resistance, Deportation, War, Rights and Freedom) in Turin (corso Valdocco 4/a), on November 19th 2009 – at 6 p.m. It will then be broadcasted, in the next few days, on the “Il Nostro Pianeta” association’s Youtube channel. During the final event, the video “Razza? Umana!” (“Race? Human!”) by Sergio D’Orsi will be projected. Thanks to the participation of some people who have experienced migration, the themes suggested by the exhibition “L’assenza dei confini, l’essenza dei confini. L’Europa tra vecchie e nuove frontiere” (“The absence – lack – and the essence of borders. Europe between old and new frontiers”) – hosted by the Museum from October 19th 2009 to January 17th 2010 – will be discussed.
